Also:

"Kérnénk két jegyet Pécsre, legyen szíves." is TOO formal. It is not an error, but I personally would never say this way. But I am not a very much courteous person... :-)

Normally it will be:
"Két jegyet Pécsre, legyen szíves!"
"Kérünk két jegyet Pécsre!" / "Két jegyet kérünk Pécsre!"
"Kérnénk két jegyet Pécsre!"

It is a kind of epidemy in Hungary not saying "viszontlátásra", but saying instead "további jó napot kívánok". I dont like this custom. But as a fact it is widely used. I never use it, but this is my personal choice. Sometimes I feel the need to reply "na és honnan tudja, hogy eddig jó napom volt???".

I didn't know how to say 'past' as a postposition so I used 'around' - köré.

I guessed this might mean 'go around the church', as in 'and come back to where you started? Anyway, this is the value of these exercises for me, finding out from you what weird things I'm saying!

So I wanted to say - Firstly, you have to go past the church.

You cannot use "biztos" this way!

If you say that, the eladó will ask you:

"Én honnan tudjam? Maga fog utazni, nem én!"
So biztos is like 'of course, as if I'd travel by first class!'

This is another very important correction because I often say 'biztos' in this way when talking to myself in Hungarian.

Of course = természetesen.

But saying "természetesen első osztályon akarok utazni" sounds weird, as you dont talk this way to a stranger, the seller cant know that you "of course" will travel in 1st class. You will say "elsőosztályú jegyet kérek", "az első osztályra kérek jegyet", "első osztályon szeretnék utazni", or something like that.

Biztos means "sure" in the sense of "something without doubt" or "something very probably". In British and American movies I noticed people using "sure" as "yes" - in Hungarian this is absurd. You use "biztos" only when want to express strong probability or certainity.

So if you say "biztosan első osztályút kérek", it means that "probably" you will travel by 1st class, but you are not absolutely sure. If you are sure, you will say "első osztályút kérek", as you already has a firm decision.

Examples:

- Hribecek már megérkezett pályaudvarra?
- Nem, még nem, de biztosan itt lesz 5 percen belül.

- Biztos vagy benne, hogy Hribecek megeszi a csípős szendvicset?
- Igen, biztos vagyok benne, hogy nagyon szereti a csípőset.

- Biztos, hogy Hribecek első osztályon fog utazni Pécsre?
- Biztos, mert Hribecek nagyon gazdag, s sosem utazik másodosztályon.
- Nem, nem biztos, sajnos Hribeceknek kevés pénze van, s lehet, hogy kénytelen lesz másodosztályon utazni.

- Biztos, hogy Hribecek Pécsre fog utazni és nem Szegedre?
- Még nem biztos, mert majd csak Budapesten fogja ezt eldönteni.

- Mit fog csinálni Hribecek Pécsen?
- Nem tudom, de szerintem biztos el fog menni az állatkertbe megnézni a papagályokat.

I see now, thanks. Before I thought you meant that saying biztos means like without doubt and the other person is stupid for asking you. Is there really a zoo in Pecs? Hribecek really might go there to see the parrots!

Wow, that's quite complicated in Hungarian, no wonder I didn't know it! So just to clarify, the English version of the Hungarian use of past would be - to go next to something and then after it...         & nbsp;?
