I won't correct the whole Russian text if you don't mind, but I'd like to mention that the participles can only be used like adjectives in Russian, you have to use деепричастия (no clue what's the English term) if you mean "while doing", and in sentences like your first one it's probably better to use "usual" forms - Сегодня я занимался русским: я переписывал тексты от руки, ... (копировать means copy using some techncical means, ie to make a photocopy or copy and paste electronically).
And as far as I remember it's not for the first time that I see you write "грамматика" with three M's :D it was probably just a typo, but just in case - the only Russian word with a triple letter is длинношеее :)

Thank you for the corrections. I think that I'll reread the section on the use of participles in my grammar, - it seems that irrelevant Latin and English patterns have sneaked into my Russian. I must admit that I haven't done much Russian lately, not even reading, but I have the intention of giving it a lot of time in the next couple of months, - and making totally idiotic errors like that in public is the best incentive you could imagine. I don't know why I write triple м's in грамммммммммматика, but I'm more worried about the thing about the participles. The error concerning the correct expression for manual copying is irritating, but it it is difficult to avoid that kind of errors: you see and learn a word in a certain context, but you don't see that it can't be used in a slightly different context. I'll have to check whether my dictionary makes the distinction. Thank you for pointing it out, - it is a concept that I have to be able to express in the correct way because of my choice of methods.

By the way, the reason that I have neglected Russian for some time is that it is the only language on my list which doesn't run automatically in my head when I try to think in it. I have found an audio version of White Nights and somewhere I also have the written text in original and translation, so if I can find several free hours for the purpose somewhere for it I could try to do some ortodox Siomotteikiru'ish LR - that just might kickstart the rusty machine between my ears.

Thanks to Fasulye for the tip about the dinosaur book, - sooner or later I will revisit the Netherlands and/or Belgium, and then I know what to look for.

Yes, Jar-Ptitsa: æ is ä, ø is ö and å (aa in many names) is a rounded vowel somewhere betwwen a closed o and an open o.

Not as well as you might think, - the majority of foreign programs in Danish TV are in English, - and the exceptions are mostly fictional films which I don't watch.

Is my brain failing me this morning, or shouldn't that be "meine Mutter ihre Parabolantenne"?

I think yes, because in German you must think of the person to whom the object belong, when you decide his or her.

IC: Eg hef eins og venjulega lesið "Fótspor á himnum" i strætisvagninum. I önnuð framlag hefur eg ritað eitthvað einsog "Iversen thinks literature is just washing your dirty linen in public".

---

Oh, I almost forgot: I also have to translate all that stuff.

First, I'm annoyed with the German TV station NDR because it has stopped its programs in Low German.

Second, I counted Greek words for the first time about a week ago (before starting this log), and I got 10.500 words with one dictionary, 9.500 with another - passive words, of course. Now I have done the same thing with Romanian for the first time in almost two years. I got 32.500 words, and that is totally ridiculous. The problem is that my excellent Teora dictionary (with 40.000 lexemes In the Romanian-English section) contains a lot of foreign loanwords, most from French, but also a lot of scientic terms. And because I accidentally hit upon several pages full of foreign loanwords my count skyrocketed - which of course doesn't say much about my skills in the Romanian language as such. The conclusion is that I have to make a lot of word lists where I specifically target the words that are 'autochtone' (for want of a better term, - in reality the truly autochtone words would be those that are inherited from the pre-Roman inhabitants, i.e. the Dacians - but these people have left very few traces in the Romanian language).

Finally: I have read the usual bit of "Footprints in the sky" in the bus back from work. In another thread I have been quoted for this piece of literary criticism: "Iversen thinks literature is just washing your dirty linen in public". Yes, that's what I think, and that Icelandic book is full of dirty linen, bad weather, dirt-poor families in damp and dark cellars, pneumonia all over the place, Spanish flue, children in bad fosterhomes, rot, drunkards and god knows what - my Icelandic dictionary would start to fume if I looked up every new word for one more kind of wretched misery. But Guþmundsson is not the least sentimental, and he is an excellent writer, and that's why I can stand reading his depressing book - at least in small doses - without wanting to nuke the world.

"Det är synd om människorna", as Strindberg said (in almost untranslatable Swedish).
