1) цделать is due to my use of Lexilogos, - here you press the key for a Roman letter, and then the system transforms it. I would write cделать, but hit 'c' on my keyboard and it was promptly transmogriffed into ц. But without Lexilogos I couldn't write in Russian - originally I picked out sign after sign from the symbol table of Word, but it took forever. With Lexilogos I can almost write at normal speed (though I clearly shouldn't try to do it)

4) in most languages I know the word for "work" also can be used about books and operas and paintings (cfr. opera in Italian, oeuvre in French, Arbeit in German and work in English). But Russian never ceases to amaze me.

5) I was looking for a word for "derivation", so "Происхождение" is clearly a gross mistake (it means something like "origin", - "Словообразование" is much better. Thanks, - I should have looked this word up instead of trusting my leaky memory

The word "работа" uses for books etc rarely, and in that context this word was unsuitable. Usually "работа" (or "труд") is applied to the serious scientific books, frequently with the adjective "научная" ("научный"). For painting the word "работа" uses frequently (although "картина" or "полотно" uses more frequent). For musics this word uses rarely; we often use "сочинение". Also for works of art (music, fiction literature, paintings etc) we often use the word "творение" (especially when the work is the great work, chef-d'oeuvre).

"Происхождение" means... er... the "genealogy" of a word in historical context etc. "Словообразование" is the "technical" term, it means the way for transformation and/or combination words in order to produce the new word. So the process of combining word roots and affixes is "словообразование".

(Esp) Iverson: He leído casi todo en este hilo y me impresiona bastante, especialmente todos los idiomas romances que hablas. Me encantan los idiomas romances, todos ellos, y los quiero aprender.

Cuando cuando escribes en español mezclas un poco de Italiano y cuando escribes en portugués he notado que mezclas un poco de español, pero esas cosas van a desaparecer poco a poco. Además, hay gente aquí en el foro que mezcla así sin tener que mantener 11 idiomas, así que te felicito.

Thank you for the explanations, SII, - I am now a little bit closer to understanding how Russian functions. On the other hand the thing about "работа" clearly illustrates how much Russian idiomatics differs from that of 'Commonwesterneuropeanese'.
