I wens jou een goed weekend.

I spent the weekend with my family, and on the way there and back I succeded (as planned) in reading the rest of Os Lusiadas. I didn't find the mythological parts interesting, but in such a serious work at that time it was seen as necessary to relate everything to Greek mythology (or in some cases history). The parts that were most interesting were those that were closest to the actual world of Camões. And there were actually some entertaining passages - although it would have been better to read something about Portuguese maritime story before tackling uncle Luís' panegyric poem. There are notes, but not enough. One minor character which I found interesting was a certain Monçaide (a moor) who functioned as Vasco da Gama's interpreter - unfortunately it isn't specified how he managed to interpret a conversation between da Gama and an Indian ruler named Catual. Maybe through Arabic?

I have been listening to a socalled course in Sardic at Youtube. Most socalled courses there are just long series of words from a certain semantical field spoken slowly by a native speaker. This one is somewhat more diverse and entertaining - although I could do without the backgrund sounds (music or maybe an insect trapped somewhere?). But my study activity has been hampered for some time by an excess of things to do at my job. I still manage to do copies and wordlists and as you can see above I have read quite lot of Tolkien in Esperanto, but... the thing that has suffered most is my internet listening. When I work with computers all day long I don't really feel like sitting in front of one in the evenings.

OK, 'nuff whining. Time to study.
