DE: Esperanto und Mensa kann man überhaupt nicht vergleichen. Esperanto ist eine Sprache und jeder, der Interesse hat, kann sie lernen. Ein Mitglied von Mensa kann man nur werden, wenn man eine Aufnahmeprüfung besteht. Darüber hinaus ist Mensa an keinerlei Hobbies oder Interessensgebiete gebunden. Ich habe im Fernsehen Mitglieder von Mensa darüber klagen hören, dass man in dem Club keine gemeinsamen Interessen hat. Bei Esperanto hat man eine gemeinsame Sprache und auch ein allgemeines Interesse an internationalen Kontakten. Leute, die Esperanto sprechen, haben sehr oft gemeinsame Interessen. Die Aufnahmehürde für Mensa ist ein IQ von 130. Ich kann mir vorstellen, dass das frustrierend ist für Leute, die einen IQ von 125 oder 127 haben. Da ich vor allem Schwächen bei mathematischer Intelligenz habe, komme ich nicht in die Nähe dessen, was Mensa verlangt. Für mich ist es daher irrelevant, was bei Mensa läuft.

DE: Vielleicht ist das ein Vorurteil gegen Mensa. Ich kenne keine Mitglieder von Mensa und möchte nicht urteilen über etwas, was ich nicht kenne. Bisher habe ich zwei Fernsehdokumentationen über Mensa gesehen und ich habe mir mal Probeaufgaben von Mensa IQ - Tests zuschicken lassen, weil ich neugierig war und wissen wollte, was für ein Level das ist.

EN: Next week I will participate in a seminar which will be full of tests. This seminar is my free choice, so it's not compulsary. They will test my professional abilities with all kinds of tests. So much testing may be tough, but I find this interesting. I'm curious, in how far there will be a testing of language abilities. I would really want to take a language aptitude test, but this may be too specialised for a very mixed group of people doing jobs created for unemployed people.

If Iversen is interested in the topic, I will report how far language skills are tested. And which language skills? For example there could be some spelling tests of German or you have to find the logic relationships within a group of words. We are in a language forum here, so I would like to keep the topic language-related.

Clubs that require a specific minimum skill to enter exist every where. Being a Mensa member doesn't make you a snob. Neither does speaking Esperanto.

Yes, mensa is for the snobs. Esperanto probably not.

As Falsuye said just above, testing your abilities is not reserved for the snobs. Snobs are those whose relations are determined by those results.
