Welcome again to team MIR, are you planning to make a "new introduction" of your goals and aspirations,
like you would have done if you had started a new log? ( For me that is my favourite post of the year, when I
am all starry eyed and ambitious, and think I can get through tons of material and conquer the world over the
next 12 months :-).

SUNDAY, 16 DECEMBER 2012

Thanks, Cristina, for reminding me of this important part of TAC'ing. So here are my language goals for 2013:

Russian

My main target language is and will be Russian. I began studying Russian seven months ago and I think I've made good progress since then. I have worked through Langenscheidt's Russisch mit System and am now working on the 1997 edition of Colloquial Russian. After finishing this book, I would like to work through Colloquial Russian 2, which deals with more advanced texts and less dialogues. I would also like to get hold of some Russian books or movies to practise the "real thing".

I would estimate my level at a low B1 right now. My grammar is quite decent, but I still need more vocabulary. When I write my paragraphs in this log, I often make heavy use of the dictionary, but I guess this also a way to learn a language.

So, my goals for 2013 are:

- Consolidating my grammar
- Broadening my vocabulary
- Improving my overall level to a good B1 (I don't think I'll reach B2, but who knows)

Icelandic

Icelandic is somewhat of a special case, as there are so few materials available. I could repeat vocabulary from Colloquial Icelandic and work through Langenscheidt's Praktisches Lehrbuch Isländisch. There are other books that I could work with like Buske's Lehrbuch der isländischen Sprache or Stefán Einarsson's Icelandic. Maybe I could read some Old Norse myths and sagas again, which are very interesting and entertaining. Getting hold of modern Icelandic novels or movies would be excellent!

My main problem with Icelandic is once again vocabulary and idiomatic expressions. I would especially like to improve my active skills, so I will write in Icelandic in this log once in a while. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be any native Icelandic speakers on HTLAL, but maybe I can find some on Lang-8. My overall level in Icelandic is, just as in Russian, a shaky B1.

Goals for 2013:

- Broadening vocabulary
- Improving active skills
- Consolidating B1 niveau

Scottish Gaelic

I let myself get carried away and joined the Celtic Team for 2013, so I will continue my studies of Scottish Gaelic. I am an absolute newbie in Gaelic and will need to work through Michael Klevenhaus's Lehrbuch der schottisch-gälischen Sprache in order to improve. Other resources I might use are BBC Alba's online course Beag air bheag and Colloquial Scottish Gaelic. I'm not even an A1 in Gaelic, so I can only get better. Moreover, I don't know how much time I'll have for Scots Gaelic, so I'll hang my goals low.

Goals for 2013:

- Work through Lehrbuch der schottisch-gälischen Sprache
- Reach A1 or, in the best case, even A2.

Italian, Swedish, French

I would very much like to improve my other languages, but I don't know how much time I'll have for that, so my goals are simply: Use the languages more often and -- get better!!!

Dabbling

If Wanderlust should strike me, I might take a look at Japanese, Thai, Welsh, or Hungarian. But this will be, like everything else, a question of time available.

So, these are my goals for 2013. Wish me luck! :)

Your goals sound good, kind of similar to mine! I wish you the best of luck in the new
year, especially since your language palette and interests are so close to mine (although
your dabbling languages are pretty much polar opposites to mine :))
