Enter with a boom or The introductory challenge
I wanted to create yet another poll to find out if we need challenges, but then decided that the best way to check it is to try one and see what happens. Thus I have to make it an easy one, for equality's sake and such matters. I guess most of you have seen recently opened threads about books and films. This was the inspiration for me. Let's share the best things you've read or seen or listened since you've began studying German. I have to point out "since you've began studying" - don't list things that inspired you before the start. While thinking about it you get to find out if German keeps you by offering more gems along the way or not. You can do it in English or in German+English. Keep it flat - if I were to list all the music I've found, all the movies I've seen, I'd write a lot. ___________________ To make things easier I present my take on the challenge right on spot: Books - I almost don't read in German, and I've read nothing that I wasn't aware of before, so I'm trapped by my own regulations here, eh. Movies - Das Experiment, Die kommenden Tage (gives you some idea of how pessimistic and yet romantic am I sometimes, hehe) Songs - oh this is hard. But lemme try: Die Apokalyptischen Reiter – Erhelle Meine Seele Letzte Instanz – Showtime Samsas Traum – Was danach kommt: Spinnen Dornenreich – Schwarz schaut tiefsten Lichterglanz It seems that this challenge isn't that easy, ya know, having filtered tons of good things to share... 2 persons have voted this message useful | |

Here is the link to my log. A thousand thanks to those who have already posted so many ressources and useful links to learn German! The main ressources I intend to use are Deutsche Welle (not very original), Assimil (we're verging on genius), and my dictionary when tackling German novels! But more in my log...

So the introductory challenge...
Books and films : well, the whole point of choosing German for the TAC this year is indeed to start reading actual books in German and to be able to understand enough spoken German to watch TV or films, so I'm afraid this entry is quite empty for the time being... Songs : I'm not much into songs, sorry. But, close to songs and using the same language is poetry, and I'd like to share two poems which made a strong impression on the young learner of German I used to be some 20 years back : Erlkönig, and die Lorelei. Erlkönig Wer reitet so spät durch Nacht und Wind ? Es ist der Vater mit seinem Kind. Er hat den Knaben wohl in dem Arm, Er fasst ihn sicher, er hält ihn warm. Mein Sohn, was birgst du so bang dein Gesicht ? – Siehst Vater, du den Erlkönig nicht ! Den Erlenkönig mit Kron’ und Schweif ? – Mein Sohn, es ist ein Nebelstreif. – „Du liebes Kind, komm geh’ mit mir ! Gar schöne Spiele, spiel ich mit dir, Manch bunte Blumen sind an dem Strand, Meine Mutter hat manch gülden Gewand.“ Mein Vater, mein Vater, und hörest du nicht, Was Erlenkönig mir leise verspricht ? – Sei ruhig, bleibe ruhig, mein Kind, In dürren Blättern säuselt der Wind. – „Willst feiner Knabe du mit mir geh’n ? Meine Töchter sollen dich warten schön, Meine Töchter führen den nächt lichen Reihn, Und wiegen und tanzen und singen dich ein. _Sie wiegen und tanzen und sigen dich ein.“ Mein Vater, mein Vater, und siehst du nicht dort Erlkönigs Töchter am düsteren Ort ? – Mein Sohn, mein Sohn, ich seh’ es genau, Es scheinen die alten Weiden so grau. – „Ich liebe dich, mich reizt deine schöne Gestalt, Und bist du nicht willig, so brauch ich Gewalt !“ Mein Vater, mein Vater, jetzt fasst er mich an, Erlkönig hat mir ein Leids getan. – Dem Vater grauset’s, er reitet geschwind, Er hält in Armen das ächzende Kind, Erreicht den Hof mit Mühe und Not, In seinen Armen das Kind war tot. Goethe Die Lorelei Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten, Daß ich so traurig bin; Ein Märchen aus alten Zeiten, Das kommt mir nicht aus dem Sinn. Die Luft ist kühl, und es dunkelt, Und ruhig fließt der Rhein; Der Gipfel des Berges funkelt Im Abensonnenschein. Die schönste Jungfrau sitzet Dort oben wunderbar, Ihr goldenes Geschmeide blitzet, Sie kämmt ihr goldenes Haar. Sie kämmt es mit goldenem Kamme Und singt ein Lied dabei, Das hat eine wundersamme, Gewaltige Melodei. Den Schiffer im kleinen Schiffe Ergreift es mit wildem Weh; Er schaut nicht die Felsenriffe, Er schaut nur in die Höh. Die Lorelei!!! My grandfather taught that to me when I was probably 5 or 6--I always remembered it, but didn't know where it was from. Thank you for bringing back that memory of sitting in Grandpa's garage reciting that with him. :) 3 persons have voted this message useful | |
