Language related: my TAC goals, i.e., improve my French pronunciation, fluency, and self-expression, and learn Italian to a conversational level.

General: stop half-doing things. Either be working or not be working, but not the in-between state of half-heartedly trying to work while doing other things as that doesn't help me to get stuff done or to relax. My time is limited so no point in pissing about. This mostly applies to music practice, where I often find myself just playing instead of practising and I hardly ever finish learning or writing a piece after starting it, but also to languages - it's easy to give into the temptation to start looking at something else while listening or watching or working through an audio course, and then I don't take in the material because my attention goes elsewhere. I guess this is another discipline issue. And as well as properly working during work time, I need to get better at properly relaxing during relaxation time.

Personal: continue my efforts to be less shy and improve my social skills, as that's something that holds me back in all areas of life, and a big source of frustration since my preference is extroversion and I love people yet I often struggle to connect with them. Of course this is something I've been working on for years with not much success, so maybe it's time to step it up a notch and go out of my comfort zone more. It's not an easy thing to work on because, while social cues make it quite obvious when you're doing something wrong, it's hard to tell exactly what. This should really be my main focus because of how much it helps everything else, not least language practice.

Overall it's a case of keeping up the good work and improving it by being more focused and disciplined.

I know I say this every year, but I want to get an Alliance Francaise Certificate this year. I also might be going to Tokyo for a short break, via Dubai, so a little bit of Japanese/Arabic...you know, those two really easy languages, I should be fine

That is a good point. While I think that at least a bit of repetitive and boring work is often necessary to learn anything, my inability to concentrate on a Pimsleur lesson for example would suggest that I should find something more interesting and captivating to me to learn from :)

This is the first time I have ever thoughtfully considered making, and keeping, new year's resolutions.

- resurrect my Spanish
- speak on any topic in Hindi, read anything I may pick up in Hindi, watch a Bollywood film without subtitles
- start Hungarian from scratch and reach a level where I can speak a little with my parents
- (not related to languages) read at least 12 books this year
