That video itself was a little upsetting but then there's no way of knowing what was
happening in that guy's life so any kind of attempt at an explanation of his actions
(including the "he's just a d***" pseudo-explanation so favoured on YouTube) will just be
speculation.

What I can't get over and find really disturbing are the many comments underneath (the
comments were just flying on at a hell of a rate), which (on both sides) were mostly
nasty, brutish, and at times downright racist. I didn't think Canada was like that.

I know I've gone w-a-y off tyopic, but I've got to say that cartoon strip was amazing! It
made me feel a lot better. It's so accurate, right down to the spelling and grammar
mistakes! I might share this on my FB. I wonder why so many people show the worst of
themselves on YouTube.

I initially got some good captions and mistakenly thought that the captions were universally good. But I have come to realise that they seem to be universally bad, very bad. I don't understand why these people kept on talking to that man. You wouldn't try to communicate with a rat
crawling down the street, so why try with that kind of chauvinistic, hopeless crud? I would have said only, no I do
not want to say Bonjour to you, get lost frogface. And yes Canada has plenty of self-righteous racist garbage to
dump somewhere. Anyone with a big land and shovels interested?

On another topic : if you want to hear some really traditional Quebec french, you can watch the film Pour la suite
du monde (here on youtube) which is a classic
documentary from 1963.
I would also recommend the film Les ordres (Mise en scène Cannes winner) which is also available on youtube:

You will find the same kind of racism coming from both directions, as the linguistic
situation in Canada is often a tense one. Luckily, this is the exception rather than
the rule.

I can't help but think that the taxi in the background may have had something to do
with it (maybe the fight broke out over trying to hail it and who got there first). It
sounds like there was a fair amount of alcohol involved, too.

That kind of attitude exists all over the place. I've seen it in San Francisco,
Chicago, New York, Madrid...
