I actually think I would study Spanish. Yes, it's not as chic
(especially here in the southern United States) as French and Italian, but I'd likely
still be interested. Plus, it's worth considering that most non-natives that "speak"
Spanish never get to a high level of proficiency, so finding a non-native who is highly
competent in Spanish is not as common as one initially believes. I'd still learn it
probably because of the wide cultural arch it supports.

Of course no one doubts speaking Spanish is useful, and when you know it well, it's
actually more beautiful than you expect, I am actually thankful I got it for free at
birth. But I know myself, I would only study a language if it made me look more
interesting/sophisticated/smarter, or if I could make a lot of money with it (like
Mandarin). I wouldn't give Spanish a chance unless I had a reason such as school or my
job.

I wouldn't, unless I for some reason decided to move to Scandinavia or had a Norwegian girlfriend.

It's difficult to say "what would be if..." but knowing everything I know now about the language - definitely yes. Honestly, I find it the most beautiful and expressive language of the world. Quite possible it's just because of my poor knowledge about other languages. :) But things are as they are.

Yes. There isn't such a wide range of cultures I could've grown up in to become the person I am, and I believe German would be of interest to me from the point of view of any of them.

It's hard to say. I would probably take no interest in English, but maybe have some interest in Anglophone countries, so I would probably end up learning it. And like some have said, it also depends on what your new native language turned out to be. If I was a French speaker from Quebec instead of an American Anglophone, I would, more or less, have to learn English. However, if I came from Turkmenistan, for example, the need for English wouldn't be as high.

Yes, on the condition that English in my alternative world would be as widely-used as it is.

most likely no way. as a native speaker i can't imagine how anyone learns Russian at all, it's so confusing!
depends on the reason why russian wouldn't be my native language and whether my parents would speak it etc... but probably no.

Oh yeah, don't worry, I wasn't questioning your original post. There is no doubt that French has a certain prestige factor that makes it more chic in many circumstances. :-)
Interesting thead idea, by the way. ;-)
