If your native language weren't your native language, would you be interested in studying
it? Why or why not? Let's just suppose that you're pretty much the same except for the
different native language.
I think I wouldn't choose to learn Spanish, I would just learn it if it was obligatory at
school. Otherwise I would choose to learn something more 'chic', like French or Italian.

Probably not, it’s a minor and in my opinion not very culture bearing language.

This really depends too much on your hypothetical native language.

Or more on the location of your hypothetical native language, but go on, explore all the
hypothetical languages, that's kind of the idea!

I most certainly would have learned English, not necessarily because I'd be captivated by it, but because it would almost be a necessity in this English-lingua-franca world.

No, I do not think so but I wouldn't rule it out. It would depend on the other culture
associated with my new native language and probably also on the location of my new home
country. Plus, I could find out about my Polish ancestors and start studying Polish.

I actually think I would study Spanish. Yes, it's not as chic (especially here in the southern United States) as French and Italian, but I'd likely still be interested. Plus, it's worth considering that most non-natives that "speak" Spanish never get to a high level of proficiency, so finding a non-native who is highly competent in Spanish is not as common as one initially believes. I'd still learn it probably because of the wide cultural arch it supports.
