Hi BobbyE, nice to see your log. I'm doing Assimil in French, currently on 93th lesson passive and 32nd active (I've skipped reviewing lessons a few times because I was doing another method in French as well, but anyways, I always do Assimil translation exercises from French to Chinese, never from Chinese to French).

Wish you luck with your studies!

Hey thanks for that. Will check it out. Do you use Anki or anything
similar? Im just wondering, when you find a sentence or phrase in pinyin, what do you
use to see what it means in both English or characters?

The dictionaries only seem to do one word. I want to paste in a sentence and see.

I don't use Anki, but I'm also not really learning any words outside of Assimil right
now, besides the 10 or so new words I've learned at school and then a few names here
and there of books and TV shows.

I do use the program DimSum to see the stroke order on words that are not in "Writing
Chinese with Ease", as well as seeing the stroke order on the Traditional characters
since I'm learning both Simplified and Traditional. That program is also a dictionary
that shows you whichever word you are looking for, in isolation and in compound words.
I think you'll either have to use your own educated guess or ask a native speaker how
to use the words. If you find a better solution let me know!

I do the same, I'm only listening to the Chinese for comprehension and referring the
English for grammar and meaning until I can understand the Chinese without the aide of
English. During Active Phase I am translating from English to Chinese only.

Good luck with your studies as well!

Somewhat frustratingly, lesson 69 has 3 completely different lines than what is on the
CD.

I do lesson 78 pp and 29 ap today. I am starting to realize the beauty in the LR style or method. I'll
write more about this later, but I'm seeing results that i never really saw with the FSI drills. Listening
seems to be the key to an instinctual feel for the language...   So instead of constructing sentences
based on grammar rules, im constructing sentences based on what feels right or wrong, which I think
seems to be a much more fluent process, or requires less thinking than the former style that i learned
Spanish with VIA platiquemos.

Oh yeah, and once I'm done with the pp I will make a YouTube video of me speaking so that people can
see what I've done with just 100 days pp and 50 days ap. Should be interesting.
