Here is my song translation for the Feb challenge. I really enjoyed this challenge although I found it very difficult. I
am sure there are tons of mistakes in here, so corrections are welcome!

走 陪我走了那么久      &nb sp;     Walk, walked with me that long
越来越像朋友                     more and more like a friend
我为什么不放手      &nb sp;        Why can't I let go?
想留没有更好的理由     &nb sp;    Can't think of a better reason to stay
因为渴望自由                      Because I want freedom
这次你决不回头      &nb sp;        This time you can't turn around
你想走我想留                You want to go I want to stay
曾经的温柔       &nb sp;       Once gentle
到最后谁也带不走              In the end nobody could lead you
我为了你为了你什么都放弃       For you for you I would give it all up
想忘了你忘了你彻底都忘记       Want to forget you completely forget you
流过血的伤口到底能疼多久       Blood flowing from the wound, in the end it hurts for so long
你我成了不见面的朋友              You and me have become friends that never meet
永远都你我的好老婆!     &n bsp;       You will always be my good wife

As I have let January pass without participating in the fist challenge, here's my contribution to the song challenge. The band is Carsick Cars. I like them a lot. They sound and play a bit too much like Sonic Youth but it's very good indie rock, if you like fuzzy guitars and all. The song below is available on Youtube.

Link

The song seems to allude to certain events that took place on a certain square 25 years ago, but it's available on a lot of Chinese sites, so I suppose there should be no problem if there's some linguistic discussion about it here.

没有希望的广场 - Square without hope

他整夜的坐在广场里面
The one who'd been sitting in the Square all night
等待着他的救星出现
Waiting for his saviour to appear
他也许就站在你的面前
Maybe he's sitting in front of you
注视着你成长的一切
Watching you grow old from tip to toe

这是一个没有希望的广场 ×4
This is a Square without hope

广场上曾经奔跑的青年
The youth that once ran away on the Square
如今已经失去了他们的信念
Nowadays have lost all faith
而你整夜的坐在广场里面
And you're sitting all night on the Square
等待黑夜夜吞噬着你的一切
Waiting for the dark dark night to swallow you from tip to toe

这是一个没有希望的广场
This is a Square without hope

Questions:
- I'm not sure about the role of 的 in 他整夜的坐在广场里面
- I'm not sure what's the best way to translate 一切 in 注视着你成长的一切
and 等待黑夜夜吞噬着你的一切, but the songwriter probably wanted to link those two sentences, so they should probably be translated in the same way.

Cool song! It sounds quite like Indie rock, even the vocals. It's nice to have non-pop
music for languages such as Chinese.

Yeah, this is so much better than the usual pop stuff. They're on Spotify, too, woot!

There is lots of stuff released/distributed on Tenzenmen, you can check out the Chinese section. A popular DIY label in Beijing is Gen Jing Records, you might want to check out some of the bands they've put out, too.

I stumbled on some online resources hosted by the University of Texas in Austin including Cultural Interviews with Chinese-Speaking Professionals which you may find handy for improving your passive abilities in business Mandarin.

Shamefully I haven't logged onto the forum since the January challenge started, so my introduction is rather late. It's a good exercise anyway, though, especially because it's the first time I'm writing anything in Chinese, so here goes.

大家好。我叫Ben。我还没有中文姓。我是澳大 利亚人。
我学汉语学了大概三个月了。我每天学汉语。 很有意思,可我还不懂中国电影,中文书。
我今年要去中国学英文。我想去东北。东北冷 ,可我听说东北人说普通话很清楚。
我喜欢雪外国语。我在大学学了日语,前年在 日本大学学习了一年。因为我会日语,所以写 中国字还可以,可是汉语发音很难。

Hi everyone. My name is Ben. I don't have a Chinese name yet. I'm Australian.
I have studied Chinese for about three months. I study Chinese every day. It's lots of fun, but I still can't understand Chinese TV or books.
This year I want to go to China to teach English. I'm thinking of going to Dongbei (northeast China). Dongbei is cold, but I've heard that people from Dongbei speak Mandarin very clearly.
I like learning foreign languages. I studied Japanese at university, and the year before last I studied for a year at a Japanese university. Because I know Japanese, I am able to write Chinese characters fairly well (is this a passable translation of 还可以?), but Chinese pronunciation is very hard.

Now to translate a song for the February challenge before tomorrow!

Hi team mates! I'm trying to find intermediate textbooks. I'm going to finish Everyday
Chinese Fables and Anedoctes and I need something else thereafter. I have some options,
they are limited because they need to have pinyin and translation or I need to have
access to an OCR'ed file as well. Here they are:

El chino de hoy 2 - I liked the first one, and it's nice to have Spanish as a base
language.
Open for Business - it lacks pinyin but there is translation and it would be nice to
learn business vocabulary.
Practical Chinese for Official Purposes - looks nice for the same reasons. Has pinyin
and the like.
Speak Chinese - volume 1 might be easy in terms of vocabulary but it introduces
intermediate grammar. I got a copy with OCR ;) .
Contemporary Chinese - from 2 on. #1 is too short and easy.

Then there's not much left. I wouldn't take a textbook without pinyin or translation,
that'd slow me down considerably. On a sidenote, the textbook isn't even my main
resource now. I'm also watching cartoons, educational TV series and reading short texts
now and then, and I'm using Chinese Class as my main resource actually (currently
Elementary level).
