police-probe-whether-body-found-is-missing-Newfoundland-man/ 1

Just found out a guy I knew from college/the music scene, died/might of been murdered
in hong kong. He was found with two syringe holes in his arm and the police told the
family he overdosed, however his brother in law said they found no trace of opiates in
his body.

Didn't know the guy well enough to truly miss him, but he was an a very nice and
friendly guy and knew pretty much everyone. And yes they always say that about everyone
but with this guy it's for real.

Anyhow the reason I'm posting this here, is A as a warning, and B because although I
didn't know him well, he was a fellow language learner from my old school, who studied
classics(something I regret dropping out of), and move to hong kong 3 years ago to
become fluent in cantonese. Anyhow share your language related deaths/ immersion horror
stories.

I'll probably come off as insensitive, but other than him being in Hong Kong to learn Cantonese, what does this have to do with immersion? Without knowing any details, it could have happened anywhere, no language-learning required.

Are you kidding, this would never happen where were from, murdered, having his
family going half way around the world, fighting with doctors just to get a autopsy.
Everything about this wreaks of foriigner taking advantage of by locals.

Anyhow when someone you know lives your language learning dream I think it be relevant.

it would even be slightly more likely to happen if he had been there for a different reason and/or didn't speak Cantonese...

I'm going to go on the hunch that he's grieving and leave it at that.

My condolences, Thor1987.
