I love pre-modern written Japanese. It's the hiragana par excellence.

A page of Ise Monogatari

Traditional Hangul is very very rationalist Swiss-sans-serif, the exact opposite of the feelings evoked by the thought of Chinese calligraphy.

To me the most beautiful script is Arabic. Its gracefully flowing form on the page is art and I like the art that has been made from the script itself.

I do like Georgian! I reminds me a bit of the Tamil script.

Chinese hanzi is number one for me. EDIT: and I like simplified better than traditional.

Then, the amharic script is fascinating too.

Arabic script is my favourite. I am left-handed and like writing right to left (less ink on my hand LOL).

I have heard that Arabic calligraphy developed in part as an acceptable art form when it was considered that pictorial art was idolatrous, or something like that. Turning calligraphy into pictorial art as in some of these images seems a clever way to get around such a prohibition. On the other hand, many Islamic cultures seem to have no difficulty with images.
