Yes please. Even though I won't be studying Portuguese on a regular basis next year it
would be nice to still have some contact with the language.

Hey everyone. I just wanted to let you know the next Tadoku "Read More or Die" Challenge will start on January 1. It's a good way to encourage yourself to do more extensive reading.
You can learn more about Tadoku in this thread.
You can register for it here. You will need a twitter account.

*Looks cornered* Er... I did say that in my CV, yes... ;)
OK, I'll take my being listed in espejismo's first post as a YES from this team. Sorry for taking so long to find the team thread, but better late than never, as they say -- so... what shall we do now?
WRT names, please stay cool / be light-hearted about it -- I've been in several teams before and it's somewhat amusing how often people get offended by stuff that's not even remotely related to them. If somebody of pre-Columbian descent took offence with Tordesillas, I might take that into account, but I honestly think everything else is making a fuss of nothing. Do you think had they chosen a different place for that treaty 500 years ago, they'd have done otherwise or something? Think again, and you'll see you'd have different names yet the same history. And if they hadn't, maybe Spanish and Portuguese would be nowadays the languages of two smallish countries no one would care about, and perhaps we wouldn't be here. Who knows for sure? Certainly none of us, so why get upset?
Tordesillas could be allegorically used to keep a (this time) healthy rivalry between Spanish and Portuguese learning, hoping to stimulate both in the process, but that's just an idea. It may be a bit cryptic (it was actually a nice surprise to read the proposal), but unless you choose 'Columbus' or something equally famous, anything you choose will be cryptic to most, so who cares again? I like Iberia too, and I have no real preference there. Lusispania, anyone? Whatever you see fit, people!
OK, BTW I am well versed in major variants of Spanish, so I can do not only perfect Spanish Spanish, but rather passable Mexican and Argentinian Spanish too. Don't be afraid of asking about regional words, uses, etc.
Anyway, here I am. Good luck, and, as my Japanese flatmate used to say, '¡aprovechadme!' :D

I kind of prefer Columbus (or Colombo, Colón).
Although it would be good to find a word which is the same in Portuguese and Spanish. Even Iberia isn't, haha.

I've thought about this and the only word I find that fits the many restraints we managed to come up with is Exploradores. And I think it reflects the purpose of the group.

I thought of this name as well! :P (and thank you so much for officially joining us!)
I think "Tordesillas" is very witty. It wouldn't be any more offensive that "Columbus," by the way. But this is something that the rest of the team should help us decide.
Let's have a vote?
So far, we have:
- Iberia
- Tordesillas
- Columbus
- Exploradores
- Lusispania (not to be confused with the Lusitania)
I vote for Exploradores.
