Shusaku - thanks a lot for your update, I wast at a loss for the GDP. 400 bn USD it will be, but what should we use for the number of countries - 2?
I'll change the intro to your new text as well.
Thank you ever so much!

According to these websites:
http://www.ethnologue.com/14/show_language.asp?code=YUH
http://www.answers.com/topic/language-in-canada
http://www.abs.gov.au/Ausstats/abs@.nsf/Lookup/7DF24DBD701CE 508CA25699F0005D614
... the following countries outside of China all have more than 100,000 Cantonese speakers (some of these statistics are old but it should give at least a rough estimate):
Vietnam - 900,000
Singapore - 313,000
Malaysia - 748,000
Indonesia - 180,000
Canada - 322,315
Australia - 190,000
For some reason I couldn't find any published statistics for the US and the UK just now, but I'm sure I remember them being in the same range as Canada or maybe even higher. Definitely a few hundred thousand or so.
If we use 100,000 as the bar, then that would make 9 countries. I'll leave it up to your discretion.

For areas where Cantonese is officially recognized, as far as I know, there are only the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau (note: 2 separate regions) of the People's Republic of China. This would be a tricky one to determine. FX, do you usually include countries where the language is not official?
