This looks like an occasional thing, but at the moment, Danish Radio, channel
P4
, is offering a free audiobook:

http://www.dr.dk/p4/events/sommer-lydboeger-P4

There is also a link to the Readers Club, where apparently more books can be downloaded
(but it does not say for free):

http://www.dr.dk/Nyheder/Kultur/Laeseklubber/

Probably worth keeping an eye on for possible future offers.

...
...
OK, I've found a bit more info, and with Google translate's help:

Quote:

DR offers regular audiobooks you can download for free. Talking books on the net for a
limited time, so remember to check the last download date and retrieve them before.

The book I mentioned above is available to be downloaded between 18 June - 9th July
2012.

"Lars Elstrup kicked Denmark in the semifinals of the match against France at Euro '92.
'From the inside' is the story of an emotionally turbulent lives where performance
anxiety, doubt and depression fills it all in spite of the footballing success."

Possibly not the sort of book that would be translated into English, but might be of
interest to more advanced learners, especially with a love of football.

From what I can see, they're offering a new audiobook every week. (Last week's audiobook HERE)

Limited time offer from The Guardian - Free audiobooks in English

(They seem to be all about pop/rock stars)

Restrictions: You have to be in the UK or ROI (or appear to be...):

It started on Friday 29th June 2012, and there is 1 book each day. You only have a
short time to download each one. I'm not sure how long, but it's only a few days I
think.

There is another one today, Saturday 30th June.
It apparently continues tomorrow in The Observer (sister paper), and I think next week,
back in The Guardian.

Here are the 1st 2 download links:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/competition/2012/jun/29/john -lennon-download
(or seemingly: guardian.co.uk/john-lennon-download   )

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/competition/2012/jun/30/mike -skinner-download
(or: guardian.co.uk/mike-skinner-download   )

[n.b. remove the space from the long link, after copying it to your browser].

To get the subsequent links, you will have to search on "audiobook" from the guardian
home page (I think this will also show items from the Observer, but you could also try
looking on observer.co.uk for Sunday's, if it doesn't show up on the Guardian's.

Note that the actual download comes from audible, and you seem to have to create an
account there, but you don't have to give any card details. If you already have an
account, you can use that.

Sunday's (in The Observer), is apparently The Rolling Stones.

Please note the "small print".

EDIT:
Sunday 1st July 2012: guardian.co.uk/rolling-stones-download

There isn't one for today (Monday), so maybe that was the last one.
Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

The latest free audiobook from Danish Radio:

http://www.dr.dk/P4/Events/sommer-lydboeger-P4/download-lydb oeger/lydbog-hundens-
oerer-maria-ernestam.htm

[Unlike Jeff, I don't seem to be able to make that (usefully) clickable, although it
seems to be
about the same length. Maybe I'll crack this one day ...
I even tried editing Jeff's post and using his exact forum code, mutatis mutandis, but
still no good. Maybe my browser (chrome) is doing something odd.]

I imagine the above will show up with a space which will have to be removed in the
browser URL bar

Well, the link in your posting works perfectly, thanks.

But when I quote you without any changes, from the preview, it looks like it will not
work. I suppose further discussion really belongs in the technical part of the forum, but
may I ask what browser you are using?

IE 8. In your quote above, it indeed seems as if something's wrong (but maybe that's the usual quirk when including a link in the actual quote - this isn't the first time I see it).

But it was the same if I typed what you had (and variations) "ab initio", i.e. without
quoting. I can only assume it is chrome, or my installation of chrome, that is mis-
behaving. I will try to do some more experiments, and report back in the technical part
of the forum.

Thanks for your reply Jeff.
