Any ideas on how to use Assimil French with a tutor?
I want to try out some of the things that I'm learning in the book - instead of having
conversations with myself.
Currently, I feel like my French conversations through Skype don't really have any
direction, and I spend most of the time hoping that I'll get the chance to use what
I've learned in Assimil French with Ease. Of course, there are tons of phrases that I
can and do use, but I'd like to use more phrases more often.
As a beginner, I want to know that I'm at least successfully employing what I'm
learning. That positive reinforcement is key.
Let me know if you have any suggestions.
Thanks

Assimil was designed for home/self use. You could use it with your tutor, but it
would just be a waste of time in my opinion since you can just do it by yourself.
You can ask questions about/practice what you learned in Assimil. A tutor should give
you direction and provide you with (or at least point you in the direction of) materials
that you will use together.
If you're paying a tutor, you want to do things with them that you wouldn't be able to do
on your own, otherwise you're just wasting your money.

Sociydeza85 - I'm was just brainstorming.
I don't have a steady French tutor just yet.
Thanks for your comments though.

I have not tried using Assimil with my tutor. But maybe you could role play the dialogues
after you have studied on your own?

I use tutors to clear up points Assimil is vague about, but I don't use the actual
material unless I want to tell them a joke. In which case I will use the entire book if
need be.

Yes, jokes are good. I like Assimil in this regard -- it actually has some funny bits
that I can use in real life :)

I agree with the general sentiment of not wasting your paid time with tutor on something
you can do on your own.
However, you can use Assimil as a general source of inspiration, like a backbone, when it
comes to topics to cover with your tutor in different dialogues. You can get further
corrections on your active wave, especially if you do it in writing as the Assimil is
awesome but it just won't tell you when there is more than one correct option (and you
happen to use the other one than Assimil author).
And I'm out of ideas for now. I think you might as well consider using a different course
with your tutor, if you are going to use them for this kind of studying. It may prove
beneficial to combine two courses and two approaches.
