Boa noite!
This is my second attempt to start a log to moniture my language learning progress. Due to personal reasons, I was not able to do any language learning in the recent three month, but now I am absolutely ready and devoted to use the TAC 2015 to start over again. I will be learning Portuguese and Japanese and already signed up for the TAC 2015 teams "Romance" and "East Asian Team". Portuguese - Team Romance I had already been learning Portuguese for some months before my forced break three months ago and will definitely continue learning it, because - for me - it is one of the most beautiful languages I have ever heard. I started off with the German edition of the Brazilian Portuguese Assimil course and will continue to use it. Besides that I'm owner of the three Pimsleur Courses for Brazilian Portuguese and will learn with them in my car. In addition to that I recently bought "Português Via Brasil - Um curso avançado para estrangeiros". I would clasify myself as A1 or maybe low A2 at the moment. My goal for 2015 is to reach B1 level (this is the first language I am learning on my own, so I have actually no idea if that goal is realistic, reasonable or even too low for the time span of 1 year - I will see how far i will get). I will try to keep an eye on the time spent learning Portuguese this year and I hope i will end up at around 200-250 hours learnt in december. Japanese - East Asian Team I have always been interested in the Japanese culture and east Asian languages in general and wanted to learn one. I have been learning the Kana for the last 4 days and would say that I have a decent command of the Hiragana (reading and writing). Reading and writing Katakana is also quite good but now as good as Hiragana. Besides that I am a complete beginner with the language. I got hold of the Japanese edition of the Pimsleur Course and the Genki I Textbook, Workbook and answer keys. As a sidenote: I plan on avoiding Romaji entirely. Ok, unfortunately I haven't been able to post any log entry to document my progress this month, because I have been really busy learning for university exams which to pass next week. Nevertheless I have been able to learn a bit Portuguese and Japanese from time to time (but by far not as much as i had hoped to): Portuguese Due to the small amount of spare time I had in the recent weeks the main portion of my Portuguese learning was finishing Pimsleurs Brazilian Portuguese I and II. I had the feeling that most vocabulary and grammar related content was mostly repetition for me but I think my pronounciation issues are steadily improving. I also managed to finish the first Unit of Via Brasil which was much more challenging for me than I expected but also quite rewarding, I think. Till now this textbook makes a really good impression. From time to time I will also listen to the Brazilian Version of Disney Songs and try memorize or understand them without the lyrics in order to improve my listening skills. I discovered quite a good Youtube Channel for that: PaddySnuffles Japanese I think this was definitely not a good month for my Japanese learning. I was able to finish only the first United of Genki I and the first three lections of Remembering the Kanji. There are University holidays ("Semesterferien" in German - I don't know the correct English translation) from the second week of February till April and I intend to use that time to make up for the recent weeks. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Portuguese Due to an completely overloaded time table I wasn't able to do nearly as much as I'd hoped. At least I was able to finish Pimsleurs Br. Portuguese III and do the first 10 lessons of the DLI Brazilian Portuguese Course. At the beginning I disliked the DLI Course quite a bit because of its tediousness (even more so than Pimsleur) but I am really starting to like the Drills and think they are quite effective for language learning. The DLI Course will definitely become my main language learning source for the next weeks. Japanese Since I have much less time than expected for language learning I reluctantly came to the conclusion that I have to postpone one of the two languages for quite some time. Update: 2.04.2015
The last two days I have finally started to use Lang8 as a resource to improve or actually start to create my writing skills. I will definitely try to submit 1-5 texts a day. My biggest problem with it is actually that I am far to less creative to write something senseful.. I've even already tried to just translate a German text for small children just because I didn't know what to write.. Till now the result as not really satisfying (too many (stupid) mistakes imho), but I hope to improve fast and will soon by able to post (at least) parts of my log entries in portuguese. Besides I have completed two more DLI lessons and I am beginning to wonder if it isn't more reasonable to do two DLI lessons a day, because they really are very short (and till now quite easy).. 1 person has voted this message useful |
