My name is Jacob (or Jake, whichever you prefer). I am a 22-year old from London, UK who has recently graduated with a degree in Modern Languages.
My association with language learning goes all the way back to secondary school where I learnt French; it was here that my fascination with foreign languages began. In the case of French, I was intrigued by the diverse pronunciations, sounds and vocabulary. A few years later, I started discovering Spanish. After spending many holidays in Spain, I made it my aim to learn Spanish. As I got older, I noticed the similarities between both languages and as a result I studied them all the way up to university where I received my aforementioned degree. Personally I find my level of Spanish to be better than French despite having learnt the latter longer than the former. This is probably because I understand the accents more in Spanish than French (particularly when it comes to writing) Over the years I have dabbled with other languages such as Italian, Japanese and German however, I only manage to survive on a few phrases from each respective language. I have signed up to this site because I would like to socialise with people who speak other languages and hopefully increase my awareness of other foreign languages. I have made it a mission to learn six foreign languages sometime in the future. Well I already have two under my belt. The other languages are Japanese, Portuguese, Mandarin Chinese and I might give German another go some day. 1 person has voted this message useful |
