It's truly unfortunate that Gallo is so poorly viewed, even in Brittany. Some a bit extremist circles even seem to think promoting Gallo is an affront to the Breton language somehow.
Loudéac is a lovely area! We actually looked at a few houses nearby before we ended up in le parc naturel régional d'Armorique (though literally on the border to Côtes-d'Armor - the river that runs along our land marks the border). 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

It's true, and I think it's ridiculous. "One country, one language" : that is why, for some people, speak Breton was an affront to the French language. A famous sentence (historical or not, I don't know) says : "Il est interdit de parler breton et de cracher par terre" (in schools). Historical or not, it was surely a prevalent attitude at one time. At least judging from memoirs (e.g. Le Cheval d'orgeuil) and old interviews. For English, have you considered looking into the expat community for language practice? I don't know about the Loudéac area in particular, but les Monts d'Arrée are literally crawling with Brits and my neighbouring town even has a "French-English friendship club" just to socialise in English. If you prefer spending time with people your own age, though, you might be out of luck. Most Brits I have run into since moving here have been twice my age (I just turned 30 a couple of days ago). 2 persons have voted this message useful |
