I hadn't seen the DK bilingual visual dictionaries, but I've just had a look at the
German one via Amazon "look inside", and it looks quite good. I quite like the principle
of illustrated dictionaries (or encyclopedias). Pity there is no Scandinavian equivalent!
I noticed quite a few other languages though. |

I actually saw a dictionary at a bookshop that had Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, German and English if I remember right.

Alright so the plan is this:
Icelandic:
I will work through Teach Yourself Icelandic (33%~ done), Colloquial Icelandic (50%~ done) and A Course in Modern Icelandic (10%~ done) and tomorrow I will go pick up a few books in Icelandic from the library. Solid progress, not much groundbreaking to report as of now.
German:
All of my problems can be answered with loads and loads of vocabulary training, so I will start LR with Agatha Christie (Der Tod auf dem Nil) and extensive reading with Jo Nesbø (Hodejegerne - German-Norwegian cross training).
After some while I will order Hodejegerne in Icelandic (both pocketbook and audiobook) and work through the copies in German and Icelandic both together.
If anyone knows of any place where I could get cheap books (and audiobooks) in Icelandic (in German too but I can find them easy enough) then I would be forever grateful.

Extra info:
Okay so I picked up yet another course in Icelandic, which is "Allt í lagi - Islannin oppikirja" which is in Finnish and is very comprehensive. They employ a no bullshit approach, there's just grammar, twenty chapters that all span two pages and glossaries for each. A good addition to my other courses. I also found a parallel book from the library; ÍSLANDSKLUKKAN - Islands klocka" by Nobel laureate Halldór Laxness in Icelandic and Swedish, which is perfect for me as I love a contrastive approach and I get to read some Swedish too.
I also figured I'd try to get through the Duolingo German course.
Until next time something interesting happens.

I'm interested in your "Hodejegerne - German-Norwegian cross training".
Do you mean you are reading it in both Norwegian and German?
I can't remember if you've said how much Norwegian you know. Have you studied it, or do
you get a lot "for free" via Swedish?
(BTW: I guess I'm also "cross-training" between Danish and German by reading Jussi Adler
Olsen in both (though I also have the English)).

Yes, and yes to both. Most of it is skill transfer but I've went out of my way to actually learn more Norwegian.

Monday update time!
Almost done with first chapter of Íslandsklukkan - it's pretty slow and tarry as is to be expected. Working with my plethora of workbooks and everything is going as planned. I also started doing Learning with Texts and added some Icelandic news articles to help me understand written vocabulary.
German is going dandy; reading practice and took Duolingo back to my routine, I guess it's of some help.

Wee, completed Teach Yourself Icelandic! Next a few others things waiting for completion.
I started German for Reading, not too far into it yet though.
Could use recommendations for both.

I can sense the onset of a sinusitis, so fatigue, headache and difficult of concentration are hindering my progress.
