Speak to people in unintelligible Irish. ;)

Thanks to Judith/Sprachprofi who was one of the main organizers of this event. I can't for my life imagine how many hours the team has spent on planning this.

I met quite a few members from HTLAL - hope to see you all again someday!

Surprises:
The number of Swedish speakers. The first language I heard when I entered the registration room was Swedish (spoken by a Pole).

Highlights:
Richard Simcott's badge with spoken languages. ("TRY ME!")
Richard Simcott's multilingual singing. Wow.

Funny moments:
My fellow Swede Tore's witty song about the Polyglot Gathering 2014.
Cesco, Stas, Guy and André singing their version of Yellow submarine.
The tongue twisters. Köyliöläisen yötyöläisen hääyöaie. Megnemszentségteleníthetetlenségeskedéseitekért

Doing the impossible:
André Müller's perfect score in the writing systems quiz.

I might write a more detailed report someday but now I have to catch up on lost sleep.

Surprisingly, the first person I saw was our own jeff_lindqvist, and we spoke Swedish,
so...;) I posted some thoughts in my log.

And Tore's song was hilarious!

Thank you everyone for attending! It's the participants that made this event as
memorable as it was.

Here are some videos of the cultural evening:

Richard Simcott (torbyrne on HTLAL) performing "Let it Go" in 25 languages (despite
having used up his voice practising languages the previous night):

Cesco, André (vortarulo on HTLAL) and the phoneticists singing "Yellow Submarine" while
replacing common sounds with exotic ones:

Tore Haglund's song about the Polyglot Gathering:

The lectures are not online yet, but you can subscribe to the official Youtube
channel of the Gathering in order to be notified when they are uploaded:

The Writing System Challenge, if you want to see how you compare to André. Note
that all these words are English loanwords, so you don't need to know the language in
order to understand them, just the writing system:

I would also like to congratulate the organizers. They did an absolutely amazing job. I came to Berlin tired and exhausted from work and had to finish a translation on the first night. I had even thought about not going because I had been so busy before.

I would have regretted that forever, I guess. It certainly was an event I'll remember for a long time for its perfect organization and the laid-back and incredibly motivating atmosphere.

And it was a truly multilingual meeting. People spoke in many different languages all the time (also some of the presentations were given in languages other than English). Since the gathering lasted 4 days all participants had lots of opportunities to practise their languages. It was such a pleasant experience to meet so many like-minded people.

Jeff and I also had some interesting conversations. Our flights home almost departed at the same time so we managed to talk in various languages at the airport too.

Thanks to everyone who participated and a big thank you again to the organizers!

Yeah, I forgot to mention that (shame on me!), but the organisation was absolutely
brilliant.

Hi Martin here. I usually only lurk on these forums. It is a great pleasure to read how much enjoyment our Gathering brought to all off you. I will read everything after I'm back home. (Currently visiting my parents.) But it was marvelous as well. And great fun to see so many people switching into all kinds of languages. It also motivated me to work on the next ones.

All the best,

Martin

I attended too and loved it just as much as the Budapest event, possibly even more due to the extra 2 days, so well done to the organisers from me too.

I met a few people from the forum, but apparently missed a couple of others like Tarvos and Jeff Lindqvist, although maybe I did meet them and didn't realise it.

This time the extra pluses were sharing a room with 7 other language geeks and the evening activities (I especially enjoyed taking part in all of the games).
