You're not likely to come across a Scanian speaking to another non-Scanian in basilect/dialect either,
but only mesolect-to-acrolect with a Scanian accent, even people from Kalmar or Växjö are not able to understand hardcore Scanian dialects, although they have no problem with Scanian-flavored standard Swedish
(which most urban Scanians under the age of 40 years only speak, anyway).

Yep! Precisely my point.

At most, the confusion that has been likely to occur in at least the past three generations of Scanians has been related to the fact that those of us raised with dialect don't always know when our vocabulary differs from non-dialect speakers. Sometimes it's obvious that a word is dialect (ålahue, tannamagare, rullebör, sulten), sometimes it's such a common word, or just one that sounds less West Danish, that we haven't got a clue it's dialectal until someone doesn't understand us (fälleben, hyllebär, mög, nätt).
