Why?

Because I keep meeting people who speak a language that I don't!

Why do some people like to draw, cook or paint while others don't? I could name some benefits to language
learning, but these things aren't necessary for life for the average person, but I just have this passion so it's
necessary to MY life. I've been interested in foreign countries, geography and different languages ever since I
remember, although I didn't get truly exposed to foreign language learning before I was 13. 7 years later I'm still
loving every minute of it.

Out of passion. A sense of adventure. I love learning how to use the gurgling nonsensical sounds as becoming meaningful and nuanced in my mind.

Um... I just like it. And it's all there to be learned and used!

You could say I'm selfish and can't pick just one. That may be true. It's the same when I play a musical instrument. I didn't stop at learning one thing. I know many, and it all works together.

Why do so many people on here choose to become a polyglot? I mean is it just because of a passion for learning languages or other reaons?

There's an interesting Romanian short story named "Budulea Taichii" by Slavici; there,
someone says that knowing a language is like having more holes in a flute. I think this
applies, especially today.
