What sort of "bestseller books" have already been translated into Esperanto (I would be interested in buying one if such exist). For example Harry Potter, etc. (though I think that HP hasn't yet been translated :( ). Thanks!

If by "bestseller" you mean modern, brand new novels, then basically nothing at all.
However, a lot of older books which were bestsellers in their day and are considered classics are available in translation such as Tolkien's Hobbit & Lord of the Rings, George Orwell, Mark Twain, and a lot more.

There is an Esperanto translation of Harry Potter, but the group who translated it were
unsuccessful getting it published. The company that holds the rights doesn't want to
publish it, and they are not ready to negotiate terms for a different company publishing
the Esperanto translation.

Thanks. And to dmaddock1: Yep, that's what I meant. Tolkien, George Orwell, etc. as well (just couldn't find the right word ;-) ). Where are those books available? Are any of them available online?

Some modern books are available in translation; I have "La lada tambureto" in Esperanto, which is a translation of Günter Grass's "Die Blechtrommel", which won the Nobel prize in literature in 1999.
La Esperanto librejo has a few well-known Polish books in Esperanto.
Project Gutenbegr's Esperanto section has a wider range of books, of mixed quality.
DonH's Esperanto literature site also has a wide range. It has an excerpt from 'The Hobbit."
I've seen "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" in Esperanto physically, but I haven't seen them online (I haven't looked either, though).
If you want physical books, UEA's catalog is the first place to look.

Maybe it's a stupid question... are books like these ever recorded? I'd like to try L-R for Esperanto but I'm not sure if there are any classics/bestseller audiobooks.

The aforementioned UEA catalog has a good selection, as does the Esperanto USA site. There are a few public domain translations in Project Gutenberg. As for audiobooks, I have not found much after a lot of searching. There is a complete recording of Alice in Wonderland at LibriVox. I found an audio excerpt from La Hobito here in Real Audio format.
For several original Esperanto classics, Tekstaro has well formatted copies in HTML. I'm converting these for the Kindle for myself.

There are some audiobooks, but none that I'd recommend L-R'ing with that I'm aware of, unfortunately.
