I see online that Rosetta Stone had 700 employees and $90 million in sales (85% in the U.S.) in 2006, 83 sales kiosks in airports and malls, and a $30 million advertising budget in 2007.

Notice you don't hear him speak a word of Chinese in it: M Phelps Rosetta Stone TV Commercial I'm sure he had plenty of time to study such an easy language like Mandarin in between practicing and all. ;-) And here he is with his first encounter using it: M Phelps Using Rosetta Stone How many times do you think he actually used the program when he wasn't paid by RS to film him using it? I vote zero! Actually, there are no false claims made.
He says: "When I started training for Beijing, I wanted to learn Chinese." He probably did. And he says: "They say it's the fastest way to learn a language, guaranteed." And they DO say that. Even that test would be impossible to truly objectively test.
