Michelle Bachelet, former President of Chile (2006-2010) speaks Spanish, French, English,
German, Portuguese and a little bit of Russian. She learned most of those languages while
in Europe as an exiled. Before the election she used these skills in the TV ads, but I
can't find that scene on Youtube.

It's a bit shameful that the brazilian president can't speak any language beyond portuguese, but i don't blame him, he had a very difficult life.

In the 1930s & 40s, Mme. Chiang Kai-shek used to accompany her husband to world conferences and
she would be translating between English & Chinese on behalf of her husband. The Prime Minister of
Canada is usually bilingual in English & French. Since the 2 languages are official, he/she will attend the
Commonwealth summit speaking English and the Francophone summit speaking French. The ex-PM of
Australia Kevin Rudd is fully bilingual in English & Chinese. He gave speeches in Mandarin in China.
Don't forget Pope JP-II. He was fluent in Polish (his native language), Latin, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese,
French, English, etc. The Vatican is a sovereign state.
